The SoBigData Research Infrastructure (RI) is a distributed, multidisciplinary research infrastructure that aims to use social mining, big data and artificial intelligence to understand the complexity of our contemporary, globally interconnected society.
The SoBigData RI has the ambition to support the growing demand for interdisciplinary research and innovation on multiple aspects of social complexity from combined perspectives of data and models and the growing importance of ethics and responsibility of data scientists as a pillar of the reliable use of Big Data and analytical technology.
The main objective of SoBigData.it, coordinated by CNR-ISTI, is to strengthen the Italian node of SoBigData RI. This objective can be summarised in the inclusion of new technological equipment, the creation of new data centres on the Italian territory (SoBigData computing nodes) and the integration of new services. These aspects reflect the enhancement of a platform for the design and execution of large-scale data science and social mining experiments, open to users with different backgrounds, accessible on the cloud (in line with the EOSC guidelines) and exploiting supercomputing facilities. The aim is to enhance the storage and computing capabilities needed to support scalability, robustness, availability and reliability of services in the short and long term.
